How do I upload a photo to my threads?

This should fall under the "silly question prefix" but when I click the image icon... The only way to upload a photo is if I enter its URL.... Does that mean that I have to upload all of my photos to a photo sharing website?

One way is to click on the attachment icon (paper clip).
