Owning the paper version does not change the legal situation for the ebook. However, Kindle samples are DRM-free and that means the anti-circumvention provisions of the DMCA do not apply and all the traditional fair-uses are allowed.

But does gargoyle67 have an iPhone or iPod Touch or Kindle in order to get the sample from Amazon? if not, that still makes it not legal.

showing one page of a copyrighted Book is generally fair use. Having the whole book is a different story but not in the scope of this discussion.

But, we know that book is not available for an EZ Reader. We know it's only available for the Kindle. So hence, any copy of it on that EZ Reader may very well not be legal.

Or it could be hand-scanned and formatted as a sample to show to someone, which would still fall into fair-use.
Is it really worth this much time and energy? The fact that we don't know that it's legal is not, in itself, evidence that it's illegal. |

But mods have been known to remove things that are in conflict about being legal until they are proven to be legal. So why is this any different? All that needs be done is replace the photo with one that is 100% legal and it's over.

Hmm, I can't get that font to work... Whatever I do, it doesn't show up in my font-list.
Oh well, back to Thesis then... |
