A plugin with a drop-down that lists and accesses the users chosen .exe files on their computer. The drop down has the program name and icon. Would be set up with each program being entered with the choices of having it run asynchronously or with the selected book file/folder being entered. A "test program" can confirm it works before setting it. I have Directory Opus and am able to populate a menu-bar this way. Dragging the .exe files to it and having the edit button dialog pop up. Also being able to select a file path to the program icon.

But the question is what to do with them. I assumed you wanted to put them in a book. But, what BR said makes more sense and using an existing tool such as he suggested is the way to do this. Quote:
@Rellwood: When you make a suggestion, you need to give details of what you want to do or want to achieve. Of these suggestions, only the last comes anywhere near giving me an idea of what you actually want. Or why it is needed in calibre rather than some external tool. |

@BetterRed
Thanks for that step-by-step. I have all those utilities, so it's not a problem. |

Regarding bookmarks on my browser, I guess I should actually set those. They are not organized at all. This is an all day task. I just wanted to be able to load a toolbar plugin similar to Internet Search that can be programed with bookmarks of my choosing that are not based on books, or book url. I understand that clicking on the details give a quick link to the author, etc., but I was thinking that there might be some websites that a user would go to when dealing with their library without having to specifically open the browser and hunting down the bookmarks (for those of us who have yet to organize their bookmarks). It's not a big deal. I just have it on my Directory Opus and would like to see it in Calibre. It would follow the same gui and customization as Internet Search. Whether the author would like to create it pre-loaded with specific sites, it would be up to them. However the space for setting the URLs in whatever order, and importing icons would be the main function. Again, this is a quibble that probably would be redundant. Regarding "Open With" - it seems to only activate when a book format is entered. I was hoping to open any .exe with or without the need to link it to book formats. An example would be to open Notepad++, or SQ Database Browser, Word, Excel, or even a utility. Again, this might be redundant as most programs are easily found on most desktops. I need to re-read your post. |

The end results I was hoping for was having access to files, folders, .exe, clipboard items, notepad items, internet urls...without having to leave Calibre, access and access those files, folders, programs, notes, and internet sites. I have looked into all the "open with" plugins and features but they are not run asynchronously. They require customizing to the specific book files. I might not need to open a program with the book file. Again, this is probably redundant. Thank you for pointing out the steps I need to take before throwing out all my suggestions. I basically was going through my library and thinking how great it would be if I could add those resources to it , again, like my Directory Opus setup. Now that I think of it, it would be nice to be able to choose my file manager whenever I need to add a file to Calibre, instead of Explorer. Being able to enter the pathway to the dopus.exe file as an override to Explorer would be nice. Also, maybe being able to choose which browser to open. Thanks! |

I have a clipboard manager from the people who made Listary, but I haven't really gotten into it. It's a bit complex. You are right about finding the clipboard. I always have to go to the start menu and hunt for the clipboard, then open the notepad to see it. I think that having bug logs and other "copied to clipboard" items Calibre sends held on the a clipboard plugin would be a good way to keep track of them to find them easily. I imagine a drop-down menu holding a set number of items. Maybe being able to access older bug reports or logs. I know that they tend to get lost once they have been looked at, unless they are specifically saved. This might be a Job Spy add on.

Viewing images in calibre viewer, skipping main text
Hi folks,
I would like to have an option in the calibre e-book viewer with which you can jump from one image to the next, skipping the main text. The reason is as follows. Normally I am reading ebooks on a Kobo Glo reader, which is fairly small and has a B&W screen. Therefore I use my PC to go through the images (and read the captions) in the calibre e-book viewer in full color and high resolution, without reading the main text. Unfortunately this option does not exist as of yet, and the work arounds are pretty cumbersome, see discussion in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...44#post3735144. I do not have the relevant programming experience to make it myself. Would someone be interested in developing such a plugin? Possibly other calibre users would be interested as well. I would certainly appreciate it very much! |

Dear DoctorOhh,
At your advice I have indeed posted the idea as an enhancement request for the next version of the reader, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/1786620 Hopefully someone will pick it up. Thank you. Jan. |

[Plugin Idea for calibre Editor]
JOB MODE button = A button that is depressible and stays that way when activated/clicked. It puts the Editor into a state, where Jobs can be created and run. APPLY button = A button to run any listed Jobs. Example An epub file is opened in the Editor. It has many split files, that are grouped by common numbers. part0015_split_000.html to part0015_split_027.html part0016_split_000.html to part0016_split_035.html and so on. Somehow part0015 and part0016 (etc) are chapters that have been split into files based on paragraphs, which is undesirable and needs fixing, using the Editor's Merge command. After which, you also need to rename each sole remaining main file. part0015_split_000.html to part0015.html part0016_split_000.html to part0016.html etc Currently, to do that in the calibre Editor (or even Sigil) is a very laborious process, and greatly impacted by the power of your PC. So it can take quite a long while and require constant interaction. Just imagine what it would be like if you have something like 40 chapters (or more), that need this treatment/fix. So I propose a way around that awful process. Implement a Job Mode, where instead of an action occurring, it is added to a Job list for actioning at a later time, when the APPLY button is clicked. So with this it is possible to build up a Batch process, where you build up a number of Jobs (i.e. Job 1, Job 2, etc), that occur in order when APPLY is clicked. This would mean, for the example I listed, that I could quite quickly setup different groups of related split files, to be merged and each remaining single file to be renamed, and when I clicked APPLY, the whole process would be automated. I could then go off and do something else, while the time consuming process happens. P.S. I am a coder, but alas not a Python one, or I would whip this up myself. You can find examples of my calibre related programs at KindEbook Suite. |

@Timboli: Just merge all files and re-split either via a conversion or XPath or manually
