No. It shouldn't affect your books at all but make a backup anyway just in case if you're worried.

Do I need to uninstall the JB and screensaver hack to update to 3.0.3? thanks

I don't think so. However, the update will wipe the JB and acreen hack. To be safe, return the Kindle to factory settings before applying the update. Just make a copy of the Documents folder prior to updating, and after the update replace the documents folder again.

I can't see the 3.0.3 update on my UK WiFi Kindle 3 (it says it's running 3.0.2 at the moment). Is this a US only update?

It's just an early preview of next version 3.0.3, it's not being pushed on the Kindles yet.

Some new Kindles will not allow you install the Beta 3.0.3 for reason which I don't know. I am not able to install 3.0.3, regardless of what I do
