Why high CPU for the "PC Magazine" recipe?

I thought the "PC Magazine" recipe was hanging, so I killed it, but the same thing happened later, so I added -v -v -v to try to capture the problem. I let it run all night, and it completed, but with astounding CPU usage.

Environment: 4c i7, 8GB RAM, ubuntu 14.04.1, ebook-convert (calibre 1.25.0)

time ebook-convert "PC Magazine.recipe" "PC Magazine.epub" --pretty-print --enable-heuristics --no-default-epub-cover --duplicate-links-in-toc --max-toc-links 998 --toc-threshold 999 -v -v -v 2>&1 |tee -a PCMebook-convert.log &

real 312m26.807s
user 282m31.243s
sys 0m2.230s

The log file is attached as PCMebook-convert.log.txt

Any suggestions? parameters to change?

Dont use heuristics. And add some cleanup to the recipe.

Also please stop using distro releases of calibre. Most linux distros use some form of FeatureFreeze (and/or patch calibre in unwise ways), which means calibre is usually multiple years out of date. calibre is updated weekly.

calibre v2.x brought Qt5 with a headless Qt plugin that greatly improves memory usage when running the CLI tools.

Currenty calibre is on v2.30.0 which means you are 54 versions behind. (So just one year and a bit, then. )Thank G-d the news recipes use the most updated versions available on the calibre website.
