The Amazon published ebooks are Kindle only and not available in libraries, even on a Kindle.

And now Amazon are geoblocking purchase if you aren't in the country where the kindle is registered. Even on ebooks that are available and at same price. Makes buying when physically travelling impossible. Yet they will ship the paper versions anywhere.

Georestrictions on eBooks is ridiculous. I have US and UK accounts at Amazon and I can travel at eBooks.com and Kobo. So I don't have to worry about where the eBooks come from. At Amazon, I do have a Kindle registered in the US and UK.

So do I. But the US Account blocks purchases. "Location can't be verified", some such error. Originally it worked and then they disallowed a commercial USA address for any purchase of anything. Now I have a domestic one, but now the different error. Could it be they don't allow gift card only funded accounts and want a USA payment card?

Kobo travel to USA stopped working, but travelling between UK and Ireland works.

Yet Amazon will sell me ANY paper book from USA to Irish Address.


It's mad that it's literally easier to pirate some ebooks than buy them at all. But I won't succumb. I will buy & read something else.

More likely that your IP doesn't match the US address. Use a VPN.

It used to work.

Guessing location by IP is evil, and it is a guess based on data that is not 100% accurate and should not be public.

Of course I could get VPN and discover it still doesn't work because they might want to see a payment method with USA address (there is only Gift balance, no payment method at all).

Probably something I've done wrong. It's only when you click to buy there is an issue.

I bought a free eBook on Amazon US and UK the the other day. I do have a valid credit card at both Amazon UK & US. Same card.

Finally got it working again with Ireland Address and USA Amazon (won't work with UK!). The books that are unavailable in UK now have no prices and. other books now have US$ equivalent.
So can use up the gift balance at least.

The Kindle was originally registered with no address and US Gift voucher, on the KIndle, so seems to be a USA only Kindle forever without de-registering (a K3).

Ha! With a Kindle Keyboard 3 that half time won't boot (Battery replaced). Aren't those old Kindles a pain to re-register?

I'd sooner risk one of the Paperwhite 3 models we have. It's on a separate Irish account already that now has no payment method since the actual bank left Ireland! Not been used for purchases for years.

They are a pain if you don't know how to do it for the old Kindles. But they can still be registered.

When I registered my Kindle Touch, It was not obvious how to do it.

Is D&T out again in US? I bought two books today in the morning and just now was able to get to my laptop. The books are there in my content but clicking the D&T button gives me endless circle. I've used two different browsers and three different wifi sources and zilch still endless circle.
