Manually updated my Scribe. I'm hoping the Active Canvas feature will work for study type books and workbooks. So far it seems like it may be ok for that, I do wish there was a way to "grab" the canvas and move it around. Making changes to the size of the canvas after you write the note doesn't affect the written text...no word wrap etc.

The manual update was quick, just a few minutes. I've not looked at the other update features.

Amazon have really botched the releases this year. Not only with the Colorsoft screen issue, but now the Scribe AI. Reviews on the new Scribe are sitting at 2.5 with 64% being 1 or 2 stars.

The post has been removed now but someone said they changed their location to the US and the A1 features appeared - and remained when they changed back to the UK. I'd like to try but I'm concened I might lose my kindle unlimited books and any whih aren't licenced for the US.

I did order it and when it arrived today, I thought it was too large; but it's nice to use and in fact, for someone who reads very quicly, it's very nice not to be constantly turning pages.

I don't know if they have made changes and not announced it - or I haven't seen it - but the white surround on mine is white when it's off but takes on the colour of its surroundings when it's on. So at the kitchen table, it was a light blue, and in the diningroom it was beige.

For the record, I just tried this and it didn't work. I did get access to the AI features when I changed my location to the US, but the button disappeared after I switched the account back to the UK and rebooted the device.

Do you have Download & Transfer via USB option for this Scribe for books on your Manage Content page?

I do for my first gen Scribe, for purchased books. Not for KU books, but I do have the option for public library loans. I wouldn't have expected that, nor did I try it.

The question is whether or not the 2024 Scribe refresh allows download & transfer like the earlier model or disallows it like the rest of the 2024 Kindles. There is no technical reason for that feature to be missing but I suspect that it will be unavailable on the new Scribe and all other new Kindles going forward.

Seems odd if they are running the same firmware. But then Amazon seems to do things oddly, always tightening the constraints.

You would lose Kindle Unlimited, not only the books on your device but your subscription would be cancelled too.

Amazon has always had wording in the TOS about not hiding or altering your location in order to bypass location licensing limits or constraints. I always wondered about folks who use VPN's for security reasons.

D&T availability is controlled server-side on Amazon. It's doesn't particularly matter what firmware the device is running if Amazon won't even give you the file in the first place.

I have NORD VPN but I keep it set at the UK which is where I live.
