Not waterproof, but might work for people that don't need that feature. Not super big either.

That is why I said what I did about people not sharing work arounds. I'm worried if Libby gets wind that people have figured this out they will close this last loophole and then we are really screwed. Loose lips sink ships.

Hoopla is a different setup. They never did MP3.

They've presumably known about the workaround for two years since they first announced the planned change to Libby, and it's still possible.

In any case, anyone who's really determined to copy audio files from Hoopla or OverDrive or anyplace else just has to play the files and record what's playing with Audacity or some other program.

They're still in business, and have upgraded the device substantially, addressing most of the issues I had. But it's not exactly cheap, as you point out.

The reddit link has been disabled by the moderators. I read some of the descriptions that were left and it was like reading another language. I am very disappointed that I will not be able to check out audiobooks in mp3s any longer. Guess that is the way of things, change isn't always for the best.

I quit using small MP3 players awhile back because I'm not out and about long enough to make it worthwhile. It's just easier to listen to music.

This is the issue, not everyone wants to listen on a cellphone but they are forcing this with Libby. I can still get MP3 files from LibroFM rather than Audible but still have to pay for them.

It just seems that as soon as they realize they can restrict people's access then that's what they are going to do. It's all about them making money.
I will bet it is going to hurt some libraries with fewer checkouts but I'm sure Overdrive doesn't care.

You can remove the DRM from Audible audiobooks.

I know that, I had a program called TunesKit that did just that. I stopped my subscription to Audible a couple of years ago because they changed the format to enhanced which made them very large and unwieldy. That's when I changed to LibroFM because they still offer MP3 files so I didn't need to change the files from AAX like in Audible.

I am sad that I cannot use the library to check out audio books easily any more. I don't want to use my phone to listen to them, my MP3 player still works just fine. But now I can only purchase them, with the library I could check out books I wasn't sure I wanted to keep but was able to listen to them for free. Than option is gone for me now.
