3 questions I've wondered...
I'm more curious to this question; I know kindle can read .mobi and frankly I have a ton already converted/sent to my kindle... But can calibre save/convert to .azw(1)?
Is there a way to "auto-convert" after you add a book OR use a shortkey to do that? I know its overkill, and nuts todo so, but I like to have .epub/.mobi/.pdf so I can view them on any device. What is the easiest method, either through calibre or not, to either automagically or manually enter chapter information when none are present? Eg. a simple highlight of chapter title/# could technicallly create a new one in a table of content. PDFs in peticular are notorious for not having any Thanks for your time Geo |

AZW is essentially identical to MOBI. AZW1 or TPZ is TOPAZ, which is a Kindle-only format. Note that in some Kindle apps, TOPAZ is stored in .azw (or even .prc).
It is possible to use a 3rd-party plugin to Calibre that strips DRM from TOPAZ and then Calibre can format shift to MOBI or ePub. However, the conversion is based on the OCRed scan in the TOPAZ and the results are of variable quantity/ |

I read up on some before I bought the kindle. I thought it "brute-forced" the drm and "extracted" the txt, html or whatever its made up of... The ones I remember were python scripts. I didn't know about calibre then. Maybee its a different method?
