As others have said that is a broken screen NOT a burn in. I've broken 2 Kobo screens and received a refurbished Kobo to replace one with a dead IR sensor and it had a crack in the screen upon arrival, believe me I know what a broken screen looks like

and btw, great job resurrecting a long dead thread... 2010 sheesh...
