Was your reply supposed to answer my questions? Did you find the benefits of 8 track such as not having to flip the tape over at the end of a side outweighed the disadvantages of having a track change in the middle of a song?

Did either of us own an 8-track tape device either at home or in the car?

While I did have an 8-track player at home, does that mean that I can't admire the format while also acknowledging its issues? Isn't it true that the only advantage 8-track had over the compact cassette was the higher tapes speed (double that of the compact cassette)? However, didn't its disadvantages outweigh that one advantage?

Depends on what you mean by test? Did I look at the cylinders under magnification and see the hill and dale modulation in the grooves? Did I test the cylinders in another player?

Wouldn't seeing hill-and-dale grooves on a cylinder indicate that you must play them on an Edison phonograph and that playing them on any other type of phonograph will destroy them?
