The version was not WRONG, just less optimal.
You keep saying FIRE Driver... BUT the error is with THE CONFIGURED user_defined driver. THAT gets placed in the config folder upon first use, which is why I suggested removing it. It may be damaged or obsolete. If you ever need it again, configuring a USER device, will put it back |

Calibre often doesn't see my Kindle7 either. I use Calibre Companion to connect and for some reason it fails sometimes and is fine others. When it fails, I connect directly via USB without issues. Restarting Calibre makes no difference when it fails. Following the sticky mentioned here does not help as well.

see my post #13
for fire OS 6.... you probably have to select how you want the device to connect - as a media device OR for file transfer. and possibly you have to repeat that selection every time you connect. I can't give exact menus and swipe sequences as I don't have one to hand, but learnt this from connecting an android 6 phone. Fire OS 6 is mostly android 6. On the android phone its a pull down from top menu selection, and it has to be set every time, because it reverts back to being a media device any issue with wireless trsnsfer via CC failing should be in a different thread, as that will have a different cause / solution same applies to emailing books over. That works IF you have addresses correctly identified and whitelisted using your amazon we site pages. I would be very suprised if amazon removed the option to email a book to a device, in the latest Fire OS, but each device has its own unique amazon address for receiving email, and can only receive from addresses that are whitelisted for that device To view or modify your Send to Kindle email address: Go to Manage Your Content and Devices. From Preferences, scroll down to Personal Document Settings. Under Send-to-Kindle Email Settings, your Send to Kindle email address will be listed. To change this email address, click Edit next to your device, enter a new email address, and then click Save to save your changes. Note: If your device or Kindle reading app is not compatible with Kindle Personal Documents Service, a Send to Kindle email address will not be listed for that device. this thread has pictures of how to select connection type on the 8th gen Fire tablets, which is what I explained in #13
https://www.amazonforum.com/forums/d...n-connected-to Look at pics in post #3. With your tablet unlocked and connected to your PC, you need to swipe down and click on "Tap for other USB options". Then on the next screen select "Transfer Files". This is why your PC is not recognizing files on your Fire. This is the new Fire OS based on Android Nougat 7.1.2 and this is the only Fire to date where you have to select something other than the default charging... will the folks who say its broke please read the links; if you cant read then look at the pictures |

help!
Hi there,
I am trying to connect my kindle to calibre and i have followed the directions above but it still doesnt work. I also tried a hard restart on the kindle and updated the software. The kindle isn't viewable in my computer or on send to device in calibre. I rang amazon and they told me this version doesnt need to be connected to the computer for anything so it doesn't. Is it true. its Kindle 5.12.1 which is basic enough ? I'm confused ????? I want to be able to download books to my kindle from calibre for my holiday , any advice much appreciated |

what model kindle is this ( not the software version - the actual device) ?
e.g. basic, touch, keyboard, paperwhite... and what generation. what does the about device option tell you in the menus can u see if it is charging, when connected, even if nothing else is working? if its not even doing that, I would suspect the cable, or the cable port on the actual kindle. do you have a snug fit there, or is anything loose ? also try different USB ports on the PC, and try a different PC if you can get to one |

Thanks for the reply. Its a Kindle Oasis 2 (2017) Touch. It does show that its charging , just doesnt show up on the computer. And I also tried a different port already.
