For what its worth....

I have like prob many of you good people a book series. Like three or four books or even more individual books that make up the series.

I found this free website that you can use to combine all the books into a single file. Thats kinda how I like to read a series. Just the entire thing on a single file.

https://www.onlineconverter.com/merge-epub

I think the max is like four books, So I just combine the four books, then take the four book series and add the rest as needed. I did it to a several book I have in a series. Works rather well. Just wanted to put this out there in hopes that it may help a few people. Have a nice day. It does keep them all in order, you just wanna make sure you add them to put them in order. Cause thats how it will combine them. Pretty handy.

I'm more likely to go the other way - splitting an omnibus into the separate books - but yes, the EpubSplit and EpubMerge Calibre plug-ins are free (as is Calibre - no need to give money to anyone).

I've merged various short stories into a single volume - notably some Sax Rohmer and H Beam Piper shorts, but I've not merged a series into a single volume. It's rare I binge read series unless it's something I love and know well. I'm more likely to dip into a series.

I find the epub merge and epub split to be very easy to use in Calibre. No need to go to a web site.

I don't care for an omnibus. So I will split the books.

Exactly.

As a general principle I don't use the Internet to convert, modify or edit ebooks or any other document. Local tools are free, private, secure, environmentally more friendly and don't need an Internet connection.

My what a nasty suspicious mind some people have...

Personally, I tend to read books as individual books since that's how I tend to purchase them but I will combine a completed series into an omnibus to reduce the number of books in my calibre library. Current library statistics say that I have 368 omnibuses replacing approx. 2135 individual books.

Maybe I should be thinking more about omnibus editions. I have several series that were acquired at numerous stores over the years. That would make it easier to get the entire series onto whichever reader is my current favorite. Now I make a shelf or collection for each series.

For me, it was more that I fairly often re-read series and having the series in an omnibus makes it easier. Just tap on the omnibus and you're set for a few hours.

Kobo lets you search by series and list them in order. Can be set via Calibre. I use Collections/Shelves for genres/sub-genres
