I disagree and enjoyed Lynch's Dune. If you have three hours to spare, check out the Spicediver edit of Dune. For me, it is the best filmed version of Dune out there: Dune: The Spicediver Edit

It was available on YouTube for years and has just recently been blocked. Hopefully that means that Universal is cleaning it up for an official release.

I've never heard of it. What is its claim to fame? What makes it so good? Did the editor have access to discarded footage which he reused, if not, then what has been edited.
I'll check it out in the next day or two.

I loved original Dune as well. It's not a faithful adaptation, but it's certainly the most entertaining of all the film/tv shows. It's also the best looking by far. I found digital cameras, grey filter over everything, and weird boxy design outright horrible in the WB version. I disliked it so much that I still haven't watched the second part.

Found a 4k version on YouTube and I watched this mammoth 3hr version last night. It is a better version than the official bluray release.

I'd love to know how Spicediver got his hands on the extra footage. He must have worked at the studio, snuck in one night, and picked up all the editors offcuts from the floor. There were some short scenes of low quality, looked like 480 upscaled.

The film in fact was pretty good and was nominated/awarded for various prizes, but it was mostly based on a middle book in the series and did only fair box office. So that was the end of that.
For me, it's the 9 times that a "Parker" novel was adapted to a movie. All are standalone, despite there being groups of books in the series that cry out to be a series of movies, and some of the movies are based on books from those groups.

There's a series with Mark Wahlberg starring as Parker coming out, and it might have a chance of doing the character justice.

Another mini series I liked a lot is David McCallum's (Ducky NCIS, Iylla Kuryakin Man from Uncle) mini series of Kidnapped and the sequel, David Balfour (sometimes called Catriona)

I didn't like the Lynch version of Dune as it just fell flat.

I could never get into Agatha Christie's Poirot Series, But I love David Suchet's interpretation of Poirot.

I've seen the entire series of Agatha Christie's Poirot. It's excellent.

I usually read the book first, and I don't watch the movie if the book is a 5/5.

If a book is that good, I am often afraid to hurt my experience of remembering the book as it is. I have my own images of scenery, people and their personalities, stories; and I don't want that overridden in any way. Motion picture for a favorite of mine makes me afraid.

That's mainly the reason why I still haven't watched 2001: A space odyssey, or The Martian, or Twelve Years a Slave.. This applies to TV series, I don't watch the Beacon 23, or the Expanse series. I'm told I'm missing out on a lot of good stuff, but I still get to keep the books intact.

I love most screen adaptations of Agatha Christie, and love all her novels, up until her later years output. But I've a similar case right now. I've been watching Jeeves and Wooster tv show lately, I really like it a lot. I tried to pick a few novels and short stories, and I just can't stomach them.

I recently remembered another movie (in colour) based on a novel I enjoyed (the movie, haven't read the book yet): "Rosemary's Baby".
Interestingly there's one book by the author of "Rosemary's Baby", Ira Levin, which wasn't made into a movie: "This Perfect Day". I've read this book some years ago and I really wonder why nobody has used it as a basis for a movie.

Where's you find it? The official version that had been up for years was just recently pulled.

I believe they were scenes pulled from extras on the different Blu-ray versions and scenes from the extended TV cut. On Archive.org he talks a bit about the work done (adding blue back to the Fremen's eyes on the replaced scenes, for instance). DUNE-spicediver fanedit
