Whats the best way to prevent updates?

I jailbroke with the winterbreak, added the "renametoabin" files, and loaded them with Kual.

But is this the best way to prevent updates? Should I downgrade and what is the best firmware version or most popular for a 9th gen Oasis? I have done a jailbreak on a previous firmware and the update blocker similar to or the same as renametobin didn't work it upgraded me to my current firmware version "5.16.2.1.1" Stability and best GUI are my main concerns for OS version. Any advice will be appreciated.

Bonus what are good ways to edit the screensaver?

Did you actually use / click on "Rename OTA" button inside KUAL? Because if you did there is actually no way it could update the firmware (other than you transferring the bin file you manually downloaded and doing a reboot / restart).

The best way to prevent an update is to keep WiFi off.

I wouldn't worry much about updates on your 9th gen. It's been stuck at that jailbreak-vulnerable version of the firmware for a year and a half, along with the 7th and 8th gen devices. The only devices still getting updates are 10th gen and newer. If it was important to Amazon to block jailbreaking on it then they've had all the same chances to do so that they've actually used on newer Kindles.

I did, but I know when I first used Kual, I had some issues with it working, especially having it run the prevention step. It took a while to get it to run. This time, there were no issues whatsoever.

I tend to get books from my local and state libraries a lot and, due to that, use the Wi-Fi often.

I never said it was a solution you'd like. But it answers the thread topic accurately.

You can download those books from Amazon to your computer and then side-load them onto the Kindle via USB attachment. That way you can leave WiFi off all the time.

It may not be as convenient, but it totally prevents any possibility of Amazon updating the Kindle behind your back.
