I'm just a brain in a vat. Time might flow, but does it matter?

Oh boy, those folks on SyFy's "Fact or Faked" have really outdone themselves this time. Towards the beginning of the episode they consider that the "ghost" in the video they were testing could simply be the product of the phycological phenomenon "Pareidolia". That is when one sees familiar patterns in random images or sound. Then later in that same episode they perform an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon). Something which mainstream science attributes to pareidolia.

Here's an interesting tidbit from the November/December 2011 issue of Scientific American Mind:
Reading fiction can strengthen your social ties and even change your personality by Keith Oatley. Oatley claims that contrary to popular belief, reading fiction can actually make you more sociable, improve your people-skills, and even alter your personality. It seems that fiction readers are even better than average on reading people's emotions from just looking at photographs of their eyes. Hey—we're the "in" crowd! |

It's Scientific American Mind. They are just pandering to their readers. In other news, I wanna be just like Ahab. Wait a second, I've already got the obsessive compulsive tendencies and lack of perspective.
