converting files to txt. filename troubles and other issues.

first off it was entirely too difficult to find out where the converted files ended up, (I had to look it up in job details ) 1) is there a way I can set this and/or easily look it up?

next, 2) it made a complete nonsense name out of the file name. how can I control it.

3) the txt file is not there, and there is no reported errors, what is going on? here is the the job details:

select book in calibre: Tap the 'O'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES to the file names. it will break linkages

[edit] But I think you want to use some of the CLI tools (see the online help site)

Ah! thank you! so the Command Line Interface at least makes a little bit of sense and I can actually get things done. At least the CLI doesn't force me into some stupid canned way of organizing my files like the GUI does.

FWIW:

\Programs\...\ebook-convert \mydir\mysubdir\eebaum-wizardofoz.mobi \myoutdir\mysubdir\eebaum-wizardofoz.txt
or something like that should work.

thank you ! I got it to work easily from the command prompt. God knows why the gui is so ridiculously stupid and confusing.

ebook-convert [full path ]fromfile.ext [full path]tofile.ext

where the extension drives the conversion time as in
ebook-convert C:\tempdir\eebaum-wizardofoz.mobi C:\tempdir\eebaum-wizardofoz.txt

nice and easy. why the gui makes this so difficult is an exercise of over-engineering.
