They had almost two years to make the delete button work

And what does it do ??????????

When you use it it deletes the book (.mobi or .prc) and it leaves the cover image (.t2b) and the bookmark-file (.mbp) on the reader.......

That's the same for ePub books.
I delete book so seldom that well, I don't really care.
I didn't noticed the delete button didn't worked until some when whining about it, I never tried to used it.

You're right, I never missed the feature myself either. But being a software developer myself (as a profession) I really fell from my chair laughing seeing such an amateuristic implementation.

This is a feature, not a bug!

Whenever you re-upload this eBook, the Cybook still will remember where you've been the last time. Especially when you finished it and end up on the last page ...

Those remaining files are usually too small to matter - and when you can see them, you can delete them anyway.

But yes, if it was polished software, it would allow the user to decide whether he wants to delete those files as well, possibly through some configuration options.

I think they more likely add this "feature" to stop people whining about it than thinking it will be usefull. So I think that largely sufficient that it delete the book. And anyway flash file system generally doesn't be happy to be written/erased too often, so deleting very small files can be see as a way to save the flash

If they reacted at all to "people whining", and they don't understand the need themselves, why didn't they ask those people to explain to them why it's important?

Deleting files usually changes only the contents of directory node for directory in which the files are. Erasing three files from the same folder rarely results in more flash writes than deleting one file.

Hum it seems that some people doesn't understand jokes... (but you are wrong about the filesystem, especially on FAT, and you don't seem to know the difference between a standard disk sector and a flash eraseblock)

Perhaps no, I'm sorry about that but... what can I say? That small flash card has been with me for three years deleting books (it wasn't virgin when arrived to my Cybook

)

The flash inside newer Cybook (400Mhz one) is not the same beast as the SD Card or USB Flash Drive. NAND Flash is "raw" flash. SD or USB "flash drive" have some complexe and sophisticated hardware to handle raw NAND Flash. There is actually no real solution for FAT filesystem under linux for such a thing, and actually I predict that a lot of device will become problematic in a short time. I know that Bookeen work on this problem for the 1.5/2.0 release and it seems that was one of the reason that delay the update.

OK, I understand. I know now why it isn't a problem for me: I don't use the internal memory for books, only the SD Card.
