Are library books in Adobe Epub format readable on Kindle?

Can one read Adobe Epub Ebooks on the Kindle 2?

I ask this question because my local library is dramatically expanding their ebook collection, and most of the new books are only available in the Adobe Epub format. There are a few in Mobipocket format, which I gather can be read on the K2 with some effort.

I want to make sure that Adobe Epub DRM books cannot be read on the Kindle before I finally buy a Sony ereader.

Also, if I did read library books on K2 is there any chance that Amazon would take legal action? I gather Amazon doesn't approve of people reading library books with their hardware. Obviously, Amazon can identify those people who are reading the library books via the Whispernet.

No, sorry. You can't read Adobe Epub on the Kindle.

Yes, you can, but you have to strip the DRM, then convert the format to MobiPocket (via Calibre or however) in order to read it on the Kindle. It's doable, but up to you regarding whether or not you feel comfortable with stripping DRM (technically and otherwise) and converting formats.

I hope to get a Sony (or maybe the new iRex 800 coming out) in addition to my Kindle so I can read library books on it, and AZ books on my Kindle. (And so my kids won't fight so much over the K1 they now share.)

You can find threads discussing the morality of converting library books to read on a device other than the Sony. I for one look forward to the headline "Defendant reads library books!" Now, if I keep the books forever, or send them to someone else, then I consider it stealing, but that is JMHO.

I agree with you, and I think most others would, too.

Please don't ask for assistance with removing DRM - it's against our site policy. A Google search for "Apprentice Alf" may provide enlightenment.
