I hope these are not bought books. It's not good if the iBookstore succeeds.

If they meant books sold, I think they would have said so. So an awful lot of this will be Winnie-the-Pooh or other free books.

I just have no context to put 180 million books in-even free downloads. |

Just imagine how much less that number would be if they didn't instigate the Agency Model.

If we go by this forum, almost no one is buying iBooks (and indeed, no one SHOULD, since Apple helped to implement the dastardly agency model).
The stats I have seen indicate that Amazon has a 55% share of the ebook market, with BN getting a 25% share. All the rest share 20%. Those stats predate the infamous subscription change policy, which surely increased Apple's share at the expense of everyone else. My SWAG is that iBooks has between 5-10% of the total ebook market, with a considerably higher percentage on Ios devices, but that's based on pretty much nothing. Even a dedicated iPhone reader like Mike Shatzkin confesses that he buys mostly from Amazon, hardly from iBooks. |

Hey I downloaded 4 books from them. All freebies. Wonder if those are included.

Amazon is responsible for Agency pricing. Apple merely gave publishers some leverage to fight the defector monopoly of Amazon.

I, for one, refuse to pay Agency pricing for a book. Those greedy SOB's can choke on them for all I care! |

No manufacturer is going to allow one of its customers to run all of its OTHER customers out of business....or to harm the value proposition of its products.

Not in the slightest. There are lots of authors and publishers willing to sell their ebooks for low low prices.
If you want to buy an ebook when the hardback is going for $18, from the most popular publishers, you pay $13-$15. Or you wait and buy the paper back a year later. Like always Lee |
