Good text to speech pdf reader for academic articles?

Hi all - I really appreciate (in advance) all the information you are able to provide. I have read a lot of the threads, and the wiki-matrix, but still need some more input from someone who has used the text-to-speech TTS function on these things.

I get car sick, air sick, boat sick, etc., and need a TTS ereader that will read pdf and word documents so I can close my eyes!

At other times, it would be great to be able to read the pdf journal articles and make notes with a stylus. I loved loved loved my old palm zire with the writing memo capability but hard to find that stuff now.

Apparently the phantom Samsung E60 would meet all my needs, but you can't seem to get it anywhere in the states, or even have it shipped from Europe.

Low priorities for me:

wifi
fancy color stuff

Maybe this all doesn't come as an integrated package, but perhaps there is an ereader that would comfortably use one of the text to speech applications for pdf that are already out there, which people use on smartphones and laptops.

Again, advice is much appreciated!

The BeBook Neo might suit your needs. It has TTS, and a Wacom screen with stylus writing capabilities. It's also sold as the Onyx Boox 60.

The tablet Harry mentioned seems like it will suit you're needs just fine. However just to give you more options there is also the HTC Flyer, it's a 7th inch tablet based on Android 2.2 Os and the only capacitive screen device with an integrated pen as a part of the device. It also integrates well with dropbox and evernote so you can archive all of your scribes notes on evernote.

To have text to speech for pdfs you will need to drop a whopping $1 USD and buy ezPDF. This app has TTS for PDFs and also supports PDF annotations. Though for annotating PDFs I think RepliGo is better.

The Flyer is not out yet but should be out any time now.

Here is another app that can do it:
Speakomat text-to-speech app
iTunes Speakomat

It seems to be for the iPhone only though.

iOS has an accessibility feature, which I leave on, that will read highlighted text. I often open websites in the reader mode and choose the speak option to have them read to me. I'm guessing that opening the PDF files in GoodReader on an iPad would give you the TTS & annotation features that you want.

Also, for ebooks in iBooks, you can use voiceover:

iBooks can read PDF files as well (though no annotation), which might also give you TTS (though I don't have my iPad here, so I can't test it)

Given that the original poster has not visited the site in a year, I doubt they're still interested.
