Keeping annotations when going from Kobo to ADE

I have a bunch of Kobo books that I've bought that I read either using the Kobo app on my iPad or my Windows 10 PC. I'd like to download them as a backup (since I recently learned that Kobo sometimes 'drops' old books). But I make heavy use of highlights and annotations and I'd like to keep those when I have my books on my PC. I've been able to move books to Calibre via Adobe Digital Editions and also using the OBOK plugin, but the annotations seem to disappear. Any way of moving a Kobo book to my PC along with the annotations? Thanks.
