The Tolino Vision 6 is still in use, but I bought a Kindle Paperwhite Signature when it was available cheaper in an Amazon Day Deal. Switching readers, they both have the same type and size of display, both have their problems, but are ok.
The newer Kindle UI does not sort very well, but then just yesterday my Tololino startet to do the same.
Both readers are not modified, I tend to install updates as soon as displayed, on Kindle I follow a mail-news-letter which often informs me before they are distributed to my Kindle and download and install them manually.
So, no I cannot say wether KOreader works on the Tolino.

Or to answer your message, I do think both readers are worth it, the Tolino may be available in a cheaper deal, try ebook.de if you are in Germany.
And the Kindle might also be cheaper, look for a black Friday deal.

Both readers have USB-C ports and warm/cold settings for light. Difference: Tolino has a move-sensor and displays a button for orientation landscape-portrait when turned, the Kindle Signature can be charged with a Qi-Wireless-charger.
Tolino has a shorter batterie (accu) charge for some reason. Will test it now again, may be WiFi. Also, the Tolino can be switched of, the Kindle only switches the display of.
And the USB-C-port on the Tolino is on the right side, not very practical, and the Kindle has the off-/on-Switch in a place that I often accidentally push it while holding it one handed (right hand).
So both readers are good, not too expensive, and both are not perfect.
