Note to future self: do not decide you are going to track down every book in a long-running series just because they go on sale frequently, without checking whether you actually enjoy the series first.

I bought like 3 collections of Witch World novels by Andre Norton, spanning 11 novels total, and after finishing just the first two from the original trilogy I really don't think I like this series at all.

Watch you don’t get carp(eted)

I have to say that Maddz’s recipe sounds as if it could be rather nice.

Back to reading rants: typos on the first page of a book, particularly factual ones. A history book said the Battle of Hastings was in 1606!

This, exactly. I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who does this.

A typo (or other factual error) that early in a book is an automatic bail for me.

I've started several long-running series that I enjoyed the first N books, and then done the track down, but took a while to get book N+1, and when I finally did, found out that's when the series started the downhill slide.

I've done the same thing!

Yeah, I read The Sioux Spaceman and enjoyed it. But I don't think I'm an Andre Norton fan.

Yes, I try not to buy more than one book ahead in a series any more unless I'm really certain. They'll probably go on sale again.

Simultaneous device usage not enabled on purchased Kindle books. It now means the download can't be imported into Calibre, the metadata updated, and the file sideloaded onto my Kobo.

I have a bunch of old Regency romances in paperback which I'd like to switch to ebook - but can't because of this. I don't own a Kindle and have no desire to; I would have to purchase and register an old e-ink Kindle to use the download-and-transfer-via-USB functionality (and how long before that gets cut off).

In the first book of a cozy mystery series well over a dozen books, a character went (paraphrased from memory) "Thank God these kinds of things don't happen very often in [fictional small town]."

I cackled.
