Kindle Oasis screen resolution
Does anyone know the resolution of the new Oasis?
Amazon won't say. To recap:
What is the screen resolution on the new Oasis when expressed in those terms? (that is what i asked Amazon) |

Nate - Thanks for the link to the new manual. I discovered some great information on VoiceView within.

I wonder what the story is with all the 6.8" 1224x1632 readers out there. |

Yeah, so there are 3 Carta displays very close in size and resolution, but different. Two is still too many for the screen manufacturer, but I assume the Kobo screens are older production, so still irrelevant to 6.8" vs 7".
What's up with that? Is Amazon paying extra so they can state size and resolution in nice round numbers without being inaccurate or sounding nerdy? Or will they claim 7" has some significant benefit over 6.8"? |

My guess is Amazon went to 7" to one up Kobo.

Seems kinda pointless when Kobo sells a 7.8” 300 PPI reader already...
They probably just liked the 7” size better. Maybe that’s how big they needed it to be to keep the same thiness but have the same battery life without a case. I’m sure Amazon at this point is a significant fraction of eInk screen sales and can probably dictate any screen size they want at any reasonable PPI. |

Am I the only one that finds it odd that the manual doesn't contain anything about one of the major new features? It doesn't contain the word 'Audible' at all and the only mention of 'audiobook' is in generic sentence talking about how there's a great selection of stuff at the Kindle store. It tells you in detail how to read a book, all the options relating to text, font etc - but not a word on how to play an audiobook?
I guess maybe they'll update it before the 31st - but in that case why have this version at all? It's essentially the same as the previous version with updated specs - like resolution - and a section on the waterproofing. |

Doesn't that wording (underlined) suggest to you that the device won't actually ship with Audible support, but that it will be added later with a firmware update? That's certainly the way I read it. Consequently, the manual won't describe it until the firmware supports it. |

I had not seen that. That's a little disappointing. I hope Audible support arrives sooner rather than later.

My guess is that Amazon is not waiting until Audible is available to produce devices for sale and by the time the Oasis is available for sale, the new firmware will be here.
