I was under the impression that modern devices should have a couple of drain/charge cycles to calibrate the battery and software and then it was better for battery life to keep them 'topped off' with shorter more regular charges than significant drain/charge cycles.
Only to re-calibrate should they be drained again very low if battery life seems poor. Of course, this can all depend on the setup and battery type used, but it seems what most devices recommned these days. Still, I guess Apple should know and if they say drain once a month.... |

To help with the battery of an iPad, iPhone, & iPod Touch, buy the app Battery Doctor Pro.

sorry. but all of those apps are nothing but snake oil. they don't do anything you can't do on your own by simply using your device until it shuts itself off. then just plug it in and charge it up overnight. apple says to do this at least one a month. on an iphone it's pretty easy, just got 24-48 hours without charging. on an ipad it might take a few days depending on your usage.

I have a Belkin external USB bus that has 7 outlets and supplies up to 4A. It puts out way more than my laptop, a MacBook.

Motherboard Manuf update for iPad charging.
Several motherboard fabricators (Asus, MSI, etc) have released bios updates which up the wattage limits on their respective USB ports specifically to address this issue.
WARNING- Do not load a bios that does not apply to your specific system. You will FUBAR your system. See the following article for details:http://lifehacker.com/5552808/major-...-ipad-charging Last edited by Caleb; 06-06-2010 at 04:42 AM. Reason: Add article reference. |
