IF you believe my husband--and I don't, mind you--I read every label on every single thing in the store. Now, the reason I don't believe him is that I loathe, loathe, and oh, yeah, did I say I LOATHE shopping of all kinds? I don't care what it's for. Food, clothing, don't care, hate it.

Yes, when necessary--and only when necessary--I'll read a label, but hell, I want to get outta there as fast as possible my own self. I think he's just impatient.

I don't buy a lot of processed food; so, the only labels I read are the ones with the price.

Flathead $70/kg… no thanks, sardines $20/kg… they'll have to do. My local shopping district used to have five fishmongers, it now has two Ψ³

I read the labels for the use by date and calorie content.

Has anybody noticed how hard manufacturers are making it to find the use by date? Sometimes I can stand there for 5 minutes turning the package over and over looking for the use by date. Finally find it printed in a light grey 5pt font, on the side of the clear plastic container which is virtually impossible to see because of the food sitting on the other side of the printing. Seriously, why not stamp the top in a nice bold black 12pt print!!

Yeah.

I sometimes look at the ingredients (depending on the product), but I'm not interested in calories, as I don't eat that much (especially sweets) and have no tendency to put on weight.

I don't cook from scratch, so a lot of my purchases are processed to some extent. Not fruit and vegetables, of course.

We do have some shops that have the shopping basket with a long handle and wheels. That takes the place of a cart.

I do look at dates as I don't want to buy anything with too early a date

I just went through all my spices, and had a terrible time finding and seeing the dates on those plastic bottles. It is frustrating for sure.

Same. I actually inherited them from my mother, who liked to cook. I don't cook.

On the other hand, being able to cook a few dishes well enough to please yourself I find to be a blessing.

I roasted a whole turkey breast for (American) Thanksgiving and I'm looking forward to taking the second half out of the freezer for Xmas eve dinner. With stuffing and cranberry sauce. Yum!

I recently had some fun investigating Expiry dates on some meat pies here. The date in question was written as JU04. Now is this JUNE 4th or JULY 4th? The official government specs for expiry dates lists JN for June and JL for July....

It's not a question of being able to or not; I just don't want to. No way can I force myself to spend an hour in the kitchen, messing with food. I really, really hate it.

I've cooked in my younger years, mainly because I was bored and there was nothing interesting to read (this was in the Dark Ages before the internet). Now I no longer do, as I always have something I'd rather do instead, mostly read.
