So... 4.2.xxxx was released for Kobo H2O today, including the 32bpp change, and... experiment2 worked out of the box for me , no additional changes. Not sure why it didn't work for your KA1.

Too bad no one else seems to have tried it on their KA1.

Just reloaded 8432 with no patches and installed experiment2 again. Still doesn't work on my KA1. Took about 5 standbys and poweroffs before the screensaver.cfg file was even created and then 2 more before it was populated. Still no screensaver working.

In my case the new version of screensaver works... in same way. I'm using Aura H20 +firmware 4.2.8432 + some patches from GeoffR. The images can be seen (in a sleeping and a power off mode), but instead of one big image, I can see two of them (one after the other, at the top of the screen), below is some empty space and next the text "Powered off" (at the bottom of the screen). I've used images from previous version. Maybe for this one, other resolutions of pictures are necessary?

If you're seeing two images, you're using the old version. Old version is drawing pictures using RGB565 which is two bytes per pixel, but 4.2.8432 firmware switched to RGBA which is 4 bytes per pixel. The 2 bytes vs. 4 bytes just happens to result in image appearing twice but smaller with the old version of pngshow. Actually it's amazing that you're getting this far, it should already fail at the scanline step.

Thank you, it works! If I could advise you something - the file name of the screensaver in your first post in this thread (KoboRoot-ScreenSaver-4.x-...) can be misleading. I've thought that this file is for all firmwares 4.x, also for 4.2.8432.

4.2.8432 was released in 2017, the thing in the first post dates back to 20160918... I can't predict the future. I haven't updated the first post yet because the experiment is not the best solution and I'm still hoping to find a fix that also works for the KA1...

Hi frostschutz.

I tried to get the screensaver hack thing working on my Kobo Aura Ed. 2, but because I had updated it to the most recent firmware, it wouldn't work properly. The closest I ever got was getting the images to display, but they would be really small and would be tiled sideways across the top of the screen...
I ended up having to downgrade my Aura to 4.2.8110 before it would display the scanlines and work the way it should.

Main point is, your experimental 4.x version works on the Kobo Aura Edition 2, as long as its running 4.2.8110.
Because I had to downgrade the thing, now I can't connect it to the internet without it reinstalling the new firmware. Is there any way I could bypass the update or make it think its still running the new firmware?

It's the KA1 that the Ex2 doesn't work with. All other models seem to be working.
