Got a good streak of "just one more page (whoops, finished it already?)" books.

Reading Sense and Sensibility then [Northanger Abbey[/i] back to back to complete my Austen TBR provided many momwnts of reading joy and delight.

As a house, Barton Cottage, though small, was comfortable and compact; but as a cottage it was defective, for the building was regular, the roof was tiled, the window shutters were not painted green, nor were the walls covered with honeysuckles.

And now I may dismiss my heroine to the sleepless couch, which is the true heroine’s portion; to a pillow strewed with thorns and wet with tears. And lucky may she think herself, if she get another good night’s rest in the course of the next three months.

S & S particularly made me think of Wodehouse, as it was so much less caustic than her barbed wit in my two favourites, Persuasion and Mansfield Park

When you have less pages left then you thought so you can find out how it ends sooner then expected and/or to move on to the next book in the series.

When you discover that there are 100 pages of notes at the end that don't even bear reading.

I finished a couple of athlete autobiographies recently, and for me it was finding out that the last thirty pages or so are images.

Around 20% of Mark Lewisohn's doorstopper Beatles biography (944 pages on the physical copy) is footnotes.

Unfortunately, its part 1 of planned trilogy (and the other 2 haven't released yet!). I don't even remember if Ringo had even joined the band by the end.

I think you should get the extended edition. It has 1723 page and about 780,000 words.

I've had some joys and delights recently, since having started reading again, after a long time:
a) having finished a book that was stuck at the bedside cabinet, and books not finished are quite irksome imho (Prelude to Dune - Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson).
b) discovered some sci-fi books that has been written recently (previous this time there were none) from the region I live, where usually the books are about "memories of the past", generally: those are also good stories and well written (in italian so I don't mention the titles, one it's even in friulian).
c) discovered that the bestest book from my preferred authors (Arkady and Boris Strugatsky) has been translated again in italian (Hard to be a god): the first translation from '89 wasn't really great - imho.
c) off course happy to feel again this recent reading addiction .

During the Covid time it has been, to me, the one-moment that has shown very intelligent people.

It seems in earnest, but I see book 2 in the series is "The Scoundrel's Deadly Deed", so I supect there's a bit of tongue-in-cheek here. I hope
