I was an early adopter of the Voyage and rejoiced when it finally got jailbroken, but if it doesn't look promising for the Oasis 2, I might have to pass (regretfully). I must say, though, that I have had it in my Amazon cart, just resisted the urge to press the button!
Good possibility it can be.

Ok, slowly getting there (thanks....or not ) to vrf paper dummy idea, the new oasis fits (but tightly) in my handbag.

Aiming at 32 GB, 80% sideloaded books, not using the kindle collection for the time being.

Could I use the calibre metadata plugboard to incorporate my shelve names in the title of the books in order to find them quicker?

As in a real Library, each one of my books is filed in Calibre under one and only one shelf.

PS: Shelf? Shelve? Shelves? Oh dear.....

PS2: I know this would be better placed in the Calibre sub-forum, but I don't want to double post. Mods, feel free to move this post there if needed.

If the connector has a USB symbol on it, the USB symbol usually faces up.

So while you could use a USB type C to type A cable to charge a mobile device from your PC, it probably wouldn't charge any faster than an old micro usb type B to type A cable.
The type A USB is not limited to 1.5A. Just look at an iPad that uses 2 Amp (10 watts) and has for years (2010). Wall chargers can offer even more current if they need to. Power for many laptops now is USB compatible connectors at both ends particularly for 2-in-1s. The limit you are talking about is for computers supplying power, not for wall chargers.

Here is the definitive approval for wall chargers. You are right in that really high current, up around 30 watts or more will usually has type C. http://www.usb.org/kcompliance/view/...owerBricks.pdf

You need a USB-C port on your computer to take advantage of USB-C on a Reader.

I currently use PW1. The only reason I would lean towards the Kindle is the document sync, but that's not worth 150 bucks... although the oasis form factor is pretty cool too, I'm not an ultra-portable reader person. I usually leave my kindle home.
Any model newer than the PW1 runs the same (5.8.11) firmware.
Buy a re-furbished PW3 plus the trade-in of your PW1 and your costs will be lower than your $150 limit.

There are plenty of cables with USB-C on one end and USB A on the other. Depending on what advantage you are looking for. To use a brick charger this will work fine. To take advantage of speed you will need a USB 3 port at least and perhaps a USB-C 3.1 port.
