That’s how I felt about the dark tower series. I absolutely hated it from book one but I read the whole damn thing because I needed to know the ending. I was so frustrated with the ending. I almost broke my nook lol.

I have a rant on my own stupidity, and I mentioned this on another thread also. I had no idea you could change the backgrounds on the Kobo note books. I thought it was just the two templates. I just now discovered that when you create a basic template, you could change the background to dozen or so templates. They call it backgrounds but it’s the same thing lol I had the Sage for over a year the first generation Elipsa for about six months and I had the 2E for about a month and I just now figured it out. I feel so stupid. I never noticed the “…” on the top right corner lol. Also, before anyone complains about my grammar, I use speech to text on my iPad and it’s not always correct.

Some people have to weigh in on everything, even when they have nothing to say. Learning when to be silent is an art that many people never master.

Not sure where that's from but I know on Goodreads I did the same basic thing - marked a lot of books I had read a long time ago as read without a star rating (or comments) and then moved on. I was just trying to see what all I could remember and the list was the point - it did knock loose a couple good memories at the time. It could be their way of leaving themselves a sticky note.

part of that is a clumsy design by Amazon; the wording of the 'can you answer this question?' email can lead some less tech-literate users to think someone is personally asking them and feel obligated to respond.

Reading a fanfic, and the authors notes basically point to a specific part and go "teehee! look at the clever foreshadowing!" I think someone needs to tell the author what foreshadowing is.
Also, a 'dead dove: do not eat' tag (an Arrested Development joke) unaccompanied by any other tags. Currently, this tag usually means 'read the other tags, and don't complain about the content if you read anyways.' But this doesn't work if the author doesn't bother to tag anything. |

This must be one of the weirdest things I've ever heard. (I admit I know basically nothing about fanfic, as it's not my cup of tea at all.) |

It's basically just an extra warning to read the tags carefully before getting into the fic.
I've actually seen some fics that were basically "dead dove: do not eat, fluff, sharing a bed, healthy relationships" which amused me more than it should. |

![]() Anyway, IMO ordinary tags should suffice as content warnings. Anyone who didn't read the tags has no right to whine afterwards. Pile too many warnings on and people will stop paying any attention to them. But ofc this is not my sandbox, so what do I know... |

On that note, one of my recent peeves is the long list of trigger warnings that many romance novels prominently display in the beginning of the book (yes, sometimes I do read an occasional romance novel...). I absolutely hate that, as it spoils the content for me. So I always delete the warnings page without reading it. I guess it too is added to avoid complaining and poor reviews from irate readers, but I just can't stand it. I fervently hope this thing won't ever spread to other genres.

"Trigger warnings" trigger ME. Unless it's a movie and there's something that to my mind, is legit ("flashing lights may cause epileptic seizures") the rest is just bollocks. And yes, I know, that will make me enormously unpopular. Because the entire world has to cater to everybody's various and sundry issues, emotions, neuroses, and on and on and on. Don't care. I'm not "triggered" by people being unhappy with me. Hitch |
