Trollope, Anthony: The Claverings. v1. 15 Aug. 07

This is a great Anthony Trollope novel, the second one I ever read after The Warden [see Upload section].

This is the novel that really got me hooked on Trollope. If you like Victorian novels, but have been afraid of reading him, then this one I feel is an excellent introduction to his art of storytelling and characterization.

Here’s one quote about this book:

"Needless to say, The Claverings is more than a love story, in classic Trollope fashion. At its most profound, it's a difficult soul-searching of what matters most in life, and how best to get there. And, unlike many of Trollope's other works, he doesn't leave a clear safety net under his characters - you really aren't sure things are going to work out, after all.

I would heartily recommend this to anyone who is either an old Trollope pro or someone wanting to get a taste of Trollope for the first time. Perhaps you, like me, will find the world of Trollope to be rich and worthy of a year or two of your free time."

I hope you enjoy it.

A quote from Nathaniel Hawthorne: "Have you ever read the novels of Anthony Trollope? They precisely suit my taste; solid, substantial, written on strength of beef and through inspiration of ale, and just as real as if some giant had hewn a great lump out of the earth and put it under a glass case, with all its inhabitants going about their daily business, and not suspecting that they were made a show of."

I hope you do all of the novels. I could clear off a couple of shelves.

That's a wonderful quote, one that I wasn't aware of. Thank you.

I just finished all six (6) Palliser novels and will post them tomorrow morning. I'll do all the Trollope I can find. I have 7 more in a folder that I'll work on later this week.

Right now, I'm going to bed!
