Hope, Laura Lee: The Bobbsey Twins, v.1, 7 June 2008

The Bobbsey Twins, or Merry Days Indoors and Out, first published in 1904.

The Bobbsey Twins are two sets of fraternal twins. Bert and Nan, age 8, had dark brown hair and brown eyes, while Flossie and Freddie at age four had light hair and blue eyes. They live with their father who owns a lumber store and their home-maker mother. The family employ a black couple, Sam and Dinah, to cook and care for the home and property.

This is the first book in the famous series produced in the early 1900s by the Stratemeyer Syndicate. Laura Lee Hope is a pseudonym used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate for many books for children. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura_Lee_Hope This first book was almost certainly written by Edward Stratemeyer, himself. Authorship of subsequent books in the series is disputed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobbsey_Twins

Created from Project Gutenberg EText-No 17412 using both Plain text and HTML versions.

2008-06-12: Replaced book after removing all references to Project Gutenberg from the book itself. Built replacement books with Mobi2IMP following directions given by Nick to solve problems with margins and images. Originals were downloaded 9 times each.

Thanks for doing these .IMP versions!

You can check the output using the imp viewer included with the (free) eBook Publisher software. You can use this link to download the latest version of eBook Publisher. As an precautionary/additional step, you should reboot before launching the imp viewer by double-clicking the .imp filename.

Now using BookDesigner to produce the REB 1200 .imp works well (except there are no margins). The color images are retained and the text is easy to read.

However, the 1150 .imp version is sub par for two reasons (not your fault; it happens with most BD created .imps), namely:
1. Only one size of text is possible and, by default, the x-small setting is used and is more difficult to read over extended periods.

2. Any images are rendered as 1-bit (horrible) B&W graphic eqivalents of the original images.
There are solutions to each of the above problems, namely:
1. Following TIP: Attention: All Book Designer users creating .IMP books... you can change the default BD font to a size larger. Just unzip 'PubUtil21.zip' ONCE and you have installed this fix #1!

It is much harder to overcome the lack of margins mentioned above, but it is possible if you follow TIP #2: BD now allows true margins in resulting .IMP files... Personally, I don't think its worth the effort to get margins to show!

2. The solution to the graphics problem is to use Mobi2IMP 9.4 with new Windows GUI & UTF-8. It basically takes your .prc version and can create the 1150 and 1200 .imp versions with readible text and correctly sized images (if you produce the 1200 .imp version first, then the 1150 .imp separately).
I know this is a lot of info to digest, so just do what is more comfortable for you! I now always take the .prc version and convert my own .imps if I can, but that's just me!

Thank you for all your help, Nick. I'm replacing the books that I uploaded previously with new versions created with Mobi2IMP. They definitely look better. I also removed all references to Project Gutenberg from the books.
