Prehistory Novel Recommendations
Just finished the latest novel by Jean Auel and I was very disappointed. In fact it left me wanting something to read that isn't just bad. Hoping that the folks here at MR can point me toward something of a palette cleanser. This isn't a genre that I read a lot of. I only read the last of the Earths Children book because it was the final book in the series and I was hoping for a satisfying end to the story of Ayla.
So any recommendations are greatly Appreciated. |

Isaac Asimov wrote a great short story called "The Ugly Little Boy". While googling it just now, I discovered that it was expanded into a novel in collaberation with Robert Silverberg. It is also called "The Ugly Little Boy" in the US, but called "Child of Time" in the UK.

Stephen Baxter's Longtusk is technically the 2nd book in a trilogy, but it could be read separately. It's about a mammoth in 16000 B.C.

_The Boat of a Million Years_ by Poul Anderson starts out in pre-history and moves forward from then --- the ancient history stuff being much better done than the contemporary / science-fiction end of the novel IMO.
Some of his novels of the Time Patrol deal in pre-history as well and are lots of fun. William |
