Would you read in a device like this?

Teclast X98 is a tablet, not an e-reader. Will reading on this be harsh on the eyes or anything?

A lot of people read books on tablets, without any problems. Some displays are better than others, the display on the tablet you mention seems very nice. I read books on a tablet without any problems.

E-ink displays may feel better for some, but they are difficult to use for other purposes. That said, I have just ordered a new e-ink device.

Tablets are not good for reading in sunlight. eInk screens are very good for reading in sunlight.

All tablets are harder on the eyes than e-ink readers. If you don't have eye problems, you may simply not be aware of it or take enough breaks that it is a non-problem. As Adoby said, lots of people use tablets to read. My late sister far preferred the tablet over the ereader, but she also enjoyed the distraction of playing all sorts of app games (which I don't).
