Pushing Amazon

I need to confess. I push Amazon and I will continue to do it. I can't stop myself.

Lets say that there is a book that isn't out in ebook format. Lets take "The Great Escape" by Paul Brickhill. I'll go to Amazon.com and do a search for that book in the Kindle books section. It's not there of course. But Amazon sees it as a request for a sale that it can't complete.

I do this for out of print books too.

And I do buy stuff from/thru them so the know me as a customer. But they can't sell me what they don't/can't carry. I hope that it frustrates them enough to push the publishers in to moving their butts.

One drop at a time. Impetus. One drop at a time. How do you think that a flood comes about? One drop at a time.

I don't think you're alone. I've seen others posts with similar comments. This is how I get my publisher moving too. One e-mail/suggestion at time. In both cases, the companies are busy and doing their best to provide readers with great products.

It seems to me that they must have a reporting system that shows trends as well as individual requests. And every time I go back there they show similar book suggestions based on my previous searches.

I also check Amazon for reviews of ebooks. And then don't buy them because they only sell in Kindle format.

This is not a full time project. Nor an obsession. I do it in the hopes that Amazon will eventually recognize that we don't all have Kindles. And that there are books out there that we would like to buy. If, that is, the publishers would decide to make more money instead of trying to fight ebooks.

It's easy to do. Use Amazon to look up your favorite out of print book in the Kindle store. Likewise, if you don't own a Kindle use the Kindle store to read reviews. Check with Amazon to see if a book is in ebook format. The list goes on and on.

I know that it's a long shot. But it is easier to check with Amazon than it is to write all of the publishers inquiring about ebook availability.

SameOldStory,

I'm sure you're right. It would be incredible if a company like Amazon didn't monitor every failed search on their website, and didn't use the figures to guide their purchasing policy.

Whether that's enough to convince the publishers is another matter, but it's certainly worth the effort on our part.

I hope it's enough. But I still want to read reviews of books recommended on MR. And where else but Amazon. They may not have as much clout as they thought they had a few months ago, but they do have some clout.

We need more people to do it though.
