Pictures overwrite the text!

I downloaded "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen from Project Gutenberg, in epub format with illustrations.

The page after the picture still shows the picture, overprinted with the text! I looked at the html and it seems fine. The Calibre "convert" to nook as the target did not fix it.

Any idea what in particular the nook doesn't like about the format, that I might adjust the style or html? Better yet, is there any kind of fix?
