Ever since Prolific finally unblocked my ISP (they have a stupid whitelist policy which locked me out for several years), I've had a bit more spare income for entertainment purposes.

Unfortunately, this means that the impulse purchases are a bit more - from January-March 2023, I bought 11 books. In January-March 2024, I bought 25.

The surveys vary in reward and length. You're guaranteed a minimum of 6 GDP per hour. Here's my last batch of studies.

Of course, you do get the occasional researcher trying to skirt past the requirement by putting too low an estimated time. The one returned survey was where they expected me to write a damn essay for 0.10, lol.

Between some very good survey payouts, the quarterly GST credit, and a sudden decrease in cat food consumption () I... may have splurged a bit more than usual.

This also includes the yearly Kobo VIP freebie and another book redeemed with points. I logged those as 0.00 as I didn't pay anything.

An image like that is just a tease. I'm especially curious about the $20 nonfiction title!

A doorstopper about Canadian rock. It was eligible for the 10% VIP discount.

I was doing pretty well this month until a couple days ago. Then a book on my wishlist went on sale, and after that it was like eating peanuts!

I've only bought 9 books so far this year, which is great, but I'm seriously tempted by a bundle that appears to contain well over 100 books. It's ridiculous, really. Of course I don't need them. They're probably not even good. I just like the idea of having this complete library.

It's always bundles that scupper my good intentions. Maybe I should just fiddle the figures so I don't count them?

A Cory Doctorow bundle got me earlier this year. Combined with a bit of a reading slump, I'm now up three books on the year.

My rule of thumb for bundles is to compare the cost of the bundle to how many books in the bundle I actually want to commit to reading. If this works out to a reasonable price for those books and those books only then I will consider buying the bundle.

If I decide to buy the bundle then I will add those particular books to my purchase count and TBR list.

For the sake of completeness the rest of the books are normally added to my library as free extras but that's because I enjoy adding and classifying books.

With just a few days left in the month, my acquisitions for the month are up to 95. 10 of those were short novellas that were fill in for a couple of series. One book has been marked as DNF—it sounded promising but the author ended up losing me with the inconsistent world building and too many deus ex machinas in the first 8 chapters.

Cool. I did that last year during the end of the year member's sale at Audible. Bought so many titles. Quite a few were novella length so not so bad but it is a year of listening. Had a fair number of acquisitions this month although none were for me. Mom, sis and bro. Still, they are part of my TBR since I'd like to read them myself (or reread in the case of Deryni). Mom wants no more historical fiction, so I have the 5 remaining books on Wishlist. My wishlist is down to 1 page. So progress!!
