Study: Tablets Are for "Couch, Bed and Kitchen"
I kind of found it odd that "reading" is not on the list of activities performed on the tablet. I wonder if the the nook Color was included as part of the study.

nobody reads anymore, except Hollywood script-writers searching for the next big thing to feed the unwashed masses.

What, nobody social networks in the kitchen? I always tweet when I'm making omelets.
Interesting set of data, though. I'm curious about the "limited to tablets" activities. Do they mean the people who performed some activities exclusively on tablets (like browsing Facebook on their tablet, and never on PC) or are they things that you could only do on tablets? |

I mostly read on my iPad. Not books, but mags, blogs, forums, rss, etc.
You can play angry birds only so many times. As for movies, I prefer my TV. Ps: how do I edit my device list? I must've done it once, but I can't find where the setting is now. |

I think Amazon used this study. It explains the Fire entirely. Computers without keyboards (aka tablets) are entertainment devices. Don't worry about storing music and video on the devices because people will find entertainment on the web.
My fire is an excellent portable radio. It is also a great streaming client. I use it when I'm away from my desktop. I check my email and look at web pages and read books, but for real work, I settle in with my desktop. |

I guess this proves that Americans don't have restrooms in their houses.

The study in and of itself is worthless.
All of the first five categories could rightly be combined into "Home". Nowhere does this study address use in places such as restaurants, while shopping, in waiting rooms, during a commute, or while at a vacation spot. This is kind of like comparing the usefulness of a large pickup truck with that of a sportscar, and only looking at use on a racetrack, or use for a single occupant on a fifty mile commute. What is left out helps craft an innaccurate picture. Last edited by Phogg; 12-01-2011 at 12:12 PM. |

I know of something else which, it used to be said, was only good for "the couch, the bed, the kitchen."
Fortunately, in time more enlightened heads have realized that they are good for so much more than that. |
