Fredrick Forsyth Passed Away

This is in my TBR list. I"ll have to bump it up to near the top. My wife's cousin said this was his favorite all time book. I enjoyed the original movie as well.

Have you seen the TV series with Eddie Redmayne? I thought that was quite good. Also, there is a second movie with Bruce Willis that's also good.

I guess you're referring to "Day of the Jackal"? The news article refers several movies. I've seen both movies, and the knife to the bowel scene stays in my head to this day.

I'm wary of the TV show because it already has 10 episodes and it appears that there'll be a season 2. Like, why did they decide that one book needs several seasons on TV?

Same reason that the Hobbit (a not long book for younger people and adults) became three movies. A mess.

The TV show is not a direct remake of the original. It's something of a reimagining of what that character might be like today (along with the sorts of technology and tricks the character might employ). It was excellent and Redmayne was fabulous. From what I understand, it was not intended as a multi-season show but was written with an ambiguous ending that would easily permit it to continue and when it was so well received it was an easy decision to green light a second season.

Sometimes a movie tries to tell the story from a book. But TV shows don't do that. TV shows take characters, settings, general ideas and run with those in all kinds of different directions that go far from what was written in the book. The only thing recognizable after an episode or two are the character names. Doesn't mean the TV shows aren't any good (they may or may not be). But they're different.

Take Harry Potter for example. The first movie did leave a lot out of the first book. So I'm expecting the TV series have a have a lot of what was left out in the TV series.

Another example is A Series of Unfortunate Events. The movie was nothing great. But the TV show was able to flush out the books and do a much better job of telling the story because there was more time to do so. The TV show did the books justice while the movie did not.

One issue today is also (imho) that movies, TV series, videogames etc.. tends to grow long expectations by annuncing them very early (like, years before release), and that's would be very rare to satisfy too.
Amazon made a TV serie from "The Loop" graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, I'd watched few episodes but decided to not wreck its memories from the book; the upcoming movie seems nice instead.
