The newer version prompt will always give you the newest of what you have.
There are reasons that folk run 32bit on a 64bit system. It usually comes down to:'we have tried everything, and something still prevens Calibre 64 from running correctly'.

Did it say [64bit] on the status bar when calibre is running?
BTW you can uninstall the 32 bit version. Calibre shares the same config and Libraries, so it never removes those.

The main calibre function where the additional memory available from 64bit makes a difference (as in abort) is conversion of large (or badly constructed) e-books. It's worth remembering that conversion can be invoked within tasks such as Add Books, and Send to Device as well as explicitly via the Conversion tool.

But we still don't why your excessive start times disappeared. Perhaps we cyber-analysed them away

Yes, I uninstalled the 32 bit version first, then installed the 64 bit version. The install folder also changed from "Program Files (x86)" to "Program Files".

And the status bar of calibre now shows "64bit".

Provided one has added the appropriate, accurate metadata, when importing the material into Calibre, it is excellent for instant retrieval of files that would otherwise be unfindable. This is really useful for court cases such as SCO versus The World, which is on the threshold of generating 100,000 documents.

If investigative journalism is your thing, Wikileaks, amongst other sites, has thousands of documents that can be downloaded.

If you have the patience, you can download that many, and more from both Google Books, and Archive.org, for gratis.
