After a very wet day yesterday it's looking really nice. Sunny and dry and not much wind. A narrow band of rain is heading my way, but it might just fizzle out, if not it'll rain only for a short time. For today and tomorrow some clouds are predicted, but for the rest of the week the prognoses is sunny and warm (10C) for the time of year.

Snow on the ground, somewhat cold, but it's supposed to get above freezing today. They're predicting like 5 inches of snow or something on Friday, though.

Just cleared about an inch of meteorological phenomena off the driveway.

We're due for a break today, and then maybe 5 more inches tonight.

Cold (for here).

Funny thing is, I live at 500 feet elevation and my car thermometer said it was 60 degrees, when I drove down to near sea level it was 58, then I drove up another hill to work (900 feet) and the temperature was back up to 60. How's that work? Colder at lower elevations than at higher ones?

Strange!

Edit: 191-mph wind gust, 60 foot waves, snow at the lowest elevation ever recorded.

Just started snowing. Very kind neighbor used his snow tractor to widen my driveway in anticipation of yet more snow.

Cold sinks. So maybe the valleys WERE a bit colder than the high points.

It's right around freezing and raining.

So, it got above freezing enough for some stuff to melt. Now there's a coating of ice on horizontal surfaces which makes walking treacherous. I don't have a driver's license or car so I walk everywhere. I fell earlier, though I think I just suffered some friction-related discomfort on my hand. No big deal.

Ask the folks in Minneapolis.

I once lived near there, that's why I live Hawaii now.

Welp, it got above freezing. Now it's below freezing. There also is/was snow.

But fortunately it mostly didn't refreeze smooth, it's kinda textured and there's traction. So my stupid walking everywhere self got lucky.

It's called an inversion
Found a definition at https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/slc/climate...Inversions.php

From the first paragraph of the above site:
What are temperature inversions? On most days, the temperature of air in the atmosphere is cooler the higher up in altitude you go. This is because most of the suns energy is converted to sensible heat at the ground, which in turn warms the air at the surface. The warm air rises in the atmosphere, where it expands and cools. Sometimes, however, the temperature of air actually increases with height. The situation of having warm air on top of cooler air is referred to as a temperature inversion, because the temperature profile of the atmosphere is "inverted" from its usual state.
