Unfortunately, the Kobo Aura has fixed internal memory. There isn't any image available for this or a way to restore one if there was.

[Image violates Posting Guidelines or size - MODERATOR] I tried to inject a kobo touch image on the sd-card and the kobo responded (but it's not the good screen resolution and it appears artefacts...) so I think with a kobo aura image it can works. Realy no solution ? Thanks for your time and apologies for my English, I'm a french guy then I've a poor English Last edited by Dr. Drib; 06-10-2016 at 09:38 AM. |

Since it was generally believed that there are no Auras with internal sd card, there are no images around for distribution. So you may try to find some Aura owner who provides you with one. There are two descriptions available for dumping the internal memory without depending on an internal sd:If you do not get an image for the Aura, try one of another model than the Touch, maybe the Glo, and see how it works.
From the picture I would not have taken this to be the internal sd, I guess. But if you say that you can boot from this sd slot, it does not really matter. If it turns out that this works, it is a nice discovery. I would be interested on how it looks if you run the Aura with the Touch image. You talk about the resolution. I wonder whether the application window fits exactly into the screen. Or is there some mismatch? Could you please post a picture? Last edited by tshering; 06-08-2016 at 04:25 AM. |

But, what exactly is wrong with the device? What's on the screen? What happens when you turn it on? What happens when you try a factory reset? What were you doing with it when it stopped working? |

I am using my kobo with Xcsoar (glide computer).
All works fine but with no reason actually my Kobo Aura doesn't want to restart and when I press the reset button or when I try a factory reset the led turns to orange but screen remains grey. Nothing else appears on screen. If I boot from the SD card with Kobo Touch backup some text appears. As it is not the proper firmware it obviously does not work well. From memory, XCSoar just adds something to one of the scripts so that it starts a different executable. Pressing the reset button just restarts the device. A factory reset should fix that it, but, you say the LED turns orange and the screen stays grey. How are are you doing the factory reset?
Unfortunately, the flash glare makes things a bit hard to see. I can't tell if it's grey or there is damage to the screen. If you can navigate using that screen, you might be able to initiate a factory reset from the UI. And I admit to being surprised that the device boots from the external card. As to an Aura H2O image, I have sent you a PM with a link. |

Booting from external card was mentioned in this forum before. The uboot loader looks like it should be able to do so, there's a line for external card. Not sure if this is active by default in any way (same way you can initiate factory reset by holding power button and pressing both bottom screen corners [deleted vidme link] - you could try and see if this works for the Aura too).
My Magic Memory Upgrade Mod (external) and my WebPortal mod (FileManager, download /dev/mmcblk0) can also be used to grab an image. There are many ways to grab an image, the problem is they pretty much all involve the installation of mods and doing that is already risky on a device that can not be unbricked if anything goes wrong. Thank you to all I solved my problem with the help of H2O image from davidfor.
I don't know exactly how it worked but my Kobo has restarted on the external sd-card. After that I was able to do a factory reset and it solves my issue. |

Hi davidfor. I have Kobo Aura H2O. I removed the internal SD card to install Android OS. And I formatted the card (unfortunately). Now my device doesn't work. I need Kobo Aura H2O image. Could you also send me a PM with a link. Thank you for your help.

PM sent.
And for anyone seeing this, there is a thread for image requests for each device. It makes it a bit easier for me if you use the correct thread. I'm also less likely to make a mistake if everything matches. |
