Publishers Weekly provided a brief glimpse of the economy’s effect on book sales, reporting that Barnes and Noble “executives said store traffic was down, while sales per customer dipped slightly.” As a result, the book selling giant is looking to market other forms of book content to customers searching affordable options for summer reading.

It seems that customers are continuing to shop with a budget, and the days of taking arm loads of books to the counter may be over for some bibliophiles – for now.

The eBook version of New Moon by Stephenie Meyer can be found at an almost 50% discount from the list price. And the recently released Lover Avenged from J.R. Ward was selling for an amazing 66% discount. The idea of two for the price of one could be the dealmaker for customers who are still undecided about the satisfaction factor of eBook publishing titles.
