Yeah, I think B&N should have handled the integration of their online/Nook business and their stores much better. They had the resources, but didn't know what to do with them.

I've heard of one possibility which is having a 'receiving platform' at an upper window. Which would make it a little harder to steal from, I guess. Of course it couldn't apply to single-level homes. On the other hand, apartment balconies would be a good landing place (the higher up the better).

What about setting up a series of pneumatic tubes to every household in the country? Tube delivery is the next big thing. You heard it here first, folks.

It also requires air traffic control mechanisms that don't currently exist. Traffic in cities is bad enough as is, imagine the problems when mid-air collisions are a possibility!

Actually, that tech exists and is 20 years old.
It hasn't been deployed but NASA designed a highway in the sky system in the mid-90s for general aviation that scales for flying cars and drones.

https://www.nasa.gov/centers/langley...s/Olympic.html

In flying cars and personal planes it presents a heads up display that is literally a highway in the sky.

Refinement for drones is under way.
