And, IIRC, if it is junk, you can send it back for a full refund and DX will pay return shipping too.

About the backlight, one buyer said
Quote:
About the backlight: it is not only available; it's a necessity. You cannot read without turning on the backlight. So that is a yes.
Readability is good, also on sunny days. But the screen is not easy to read when it is directly reflecting the sunlight.
So it might be able to be turned off.

Retailing these in Australia

Hi all,

these units are for sale - or were a couple of weeks ago - through JB Hi-Fi in Australia. The screen looked to be okay - similar to my The Book. Couldn't find anyone at the time to talk to who knew about them, but the range of audio formats is good for a reader.

Price was AUD$127, I think, a sum that is only slightly more than buying one from DE, but with local warranty.

Cheers,

I believe the e-ink screen of the Kindle and other e-ink readers is the expensive bit. And this isn't e-ink, but a TFT display similar to the JetBook (Display: 7" TFT panel, 800*600).

That being said, if I hadn't recently bought an iPad and PRS-650 I would be tempted to give this a try.
