The Handmaid's Tale is on sale for $2.99 at Amazon. Looks like a today only deal. It was on sale in the recent past, but hey, it's on sale again.

Tom Robbins' Skinny Legs and All is on sale for $1.99 at Amazon. For me Tom Robbins can be uneven, but when he's on, he's great. I haven't read Skinny Legs and All yet.

An Arab and a Jew open a restaurant together across the street from the United Nations....

It sounds like the beginning of an ethnic joke, but it's the axis around which spins this gutsy, fun-loving, and alarmingly provocative novel, in which a bean can philosophizes, a dessert spoon mystifies, a young waitress takes on the New York art world, and a rowdy redneck welder discovers the lost god of Palestine--while the illusions that obscure humanity's view of the true universe fall away, one by one, like Salome's veils.

Skinny Legs and All deals with today's most sensitive issues: race, politics, marriage, art, religion, money, and lust.**It weaves lyrically through what some call the "end days" of our planet.**Refusing to avert its gaze from the horrors of the apocalypse, it also refuses to let the alleged end of the world spoil its mood.**And its mood is defiantly upbeat.

In the gloriously inventive Tom Robbins style, here are characters, phrases, stories, and ideas that dance together on the page, wild and sexy, like Salome herself... Or was it Jezebel?

Amorous Trooper by Ronald Bassett

Historical novel.

Rebecca faces Adam with fathering her brat and demands marriage.
Adam takes the only option for escape… he gives up his surgeon training and enlists to serve for the Queen as a dragoon.

Ronald Bassett (1924–1996) was a prolific British writer of historical fiction, sometimes writing under the pseudonym, William Clive. His other titles include ‘Blood of an Englishman’, ‘Kill the Stuart’ and ‘Rebecca’s Brat’. In 1968 ‘Witchfinder General’ was adapted into a horror film starring Vincent Price.

I can recommend Dublin by Rutherfurd. I've got it in paperback and read it a long time ago. Cornwell is always good so I may well get that one.

For those interested in Gerald Durrell, The Corfu Trilogy is £1.99 in today's Daily Deal:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corfu-Trilo...2756865&sr=1-1

This contains My Family and Other Animals; Birds, Beasts and Relatives; and The Garden of the Gods. I'm dithering as I have the first 2 as individual titles but not the last (I'd have to split it out when I convert to epub).

The Sisters Brothers / Patrick deWitt - $1.99 (US only from the looks of it.)

Quote:
Patrick deWitt, a young writer whose “stop-you-in-your-tracks writing has snuck up on the world” (Los Angeles Times), brings us The Sisters Brothers, a darkly comic, outrageously inventive novel that offers readers a decidedly off-center view of the Wild, Wild West. Set against the back-drop of the great California Gold Rush, this odd and wonderful tour de force at once honors and reshapes the traditional western while chronicling the picaresque misadventures of two hired guns, the fabled Sisters brothers. The most original western since the Coen Brothers re-interpreted True Grit—you’ve never met anyone quite like The Sisters Brothers.
