No unfortunately your Kindle has to be registered for this jailbreak to work.

Got updated Hotfix v1.1.0, and also the kual-mrinstaller-khf.tar.xz as recommended by @hondabf. Otherwise followed the guide nearly as written, using those files instead. I now have KUAL, MRPI, renameotabin all installed (and rename run!). There were a couple sections where I got a bit worried when a step took a while to finish running, but patience won out. I've since gotten the KOReader nightly for kindlehf installed, and it found an OTA update once I changed it to the developer channel. This is exactly what I've been waiting months for! KOReader is my preferred reading app, and now I finally have it on the large Scribe screen, and I get to enjoy the latest firmware and features at the same time.

Thanks for the work getting this jailbreak working, and thanks for all the developers and testers of the whole stack of projects that make this all work!

Heads up, anyone that used the Hotfix, please update it (just download the new one and sideload the update) with v1.2.0, there was a bug in the last one which meant it did not properly persist updates on certain Kindles which has now been fixed

I encountered a very strange situation. I had firmware 5.16.some, and my Kindle was in airplane mode. I performed the WinterBreak jailbreak, everything seemed successful, and the Kindle rebooted itself. Wi-Fi was already turned on.
Then I tried to install the 1.1.0 hotfix - After I copied the hotfix file to the Kindle`s root I go to the three dots, then "Settings," then another three dots and "Update your Kindle." -> I saw the "Update failed" message. And after the reboot the firmware version became 5.17.1.
As a result, it's unclear whether the jailbreak is still present or if it was removed during the transition from 5.16 to 5.17. Repeating the WinterBreak procedure seems to start, but the Kindle doesn't reboot. The v1.2.0 hotfix also results in an "Update failed" error.
Any advice or did I mess up?

Delete the "WinterBreak.log" file from your Kindle and try jailbreaking again

I just tried following the steps a few times, but when I open the store and disable airplane mode it just says "Updating your Kindle store experience. This should take less than a minute." and proceeds to load the regular store. I'm on 5.17.0, should I update it first?

Both WinterBreak and the Universal Hotfix have now been tested and work (properly) on 12th gen devices, including the Colorsoft

Confirming sucsessful Jailbreak+Hotfix on PW6.

Then you need to edit the 1st post to not say ANY KINDLE and ANY FIRMWARE. That's actually incorrect.
