[Kindle] No covers showing on Scribe

Strangely, I had just used Calibre to load my library on to a new Scribe... but the covers aren't showing. What's weird is that it's the same library, no changes, that has been on my old Paperwhite with the covers showing properly up until now. Are there any additional steps or settings in Calibre that I should look at?

When connected via USB, is the /system folder visible?

On Colorsoft, it is not, and so there's no way to side load covers, since they are stored in a subfolder of /system.

Yes, if I look in the internal storage on the device, there is documents, fonts, etc... but no system folder. I loading them via Calibre to the Scribe, as I did with my Paperwhite previously. Does that mean I will never be able to display covers? That would be a real disappointment that I didn't anticipate with this reader. Thanks for the help.

*edit* I guess I should add that I can see the cover if I open to the beginning of a book... not sure if that makes any difference.

Have the same issue. Per dev this was purposefully broken by Amazon. You may still be able to send the book as a personal document as a workaround for the cover to appear.

See Covers for books sent to my Kindle ColorSoft do not show up in the book list? for the workaround.

See Bug #2091242 for dev response.

Thank you. I really appreciate the reply. I've been reading up on this more since my original post. I'm trying to find the best combination of PDOC/EBOK, cover/no cover, balanced with things like importing my old .sdr folders to keep my reading progress (doesn't seem to work if you load as documents), and kindle format (azw3/kfx). It seems like, if you upgrade to the newer kindles you won't be able to have it all any more.

If you are moving to a 2024 Kindle, you are best to start over. It's not going to be easy if it can be done to move over and keep everything. We already know you cannot keep the covers thumbnails.

I was able to get it (saving the read progress) working by placing the .azw3 into the same documents folder as the .sdr folders from my old device. When they load onto the Kindle Scribe, they show 0% read, but when you open them they open to the correct page. Then, when you close them after the first time opening, they show the correct progress %.

My other question is whether 2024 Scribe has Download & Transfer via USB option on the Manage Your Content & Devices page (for purchased books). I'm guessing it does not.

Also, can anyone confirm .notebooks folder is still visible?

Anyone find here a Solution?

Have the new Scribe too and cant get Covers Only when i put the Books via SendToKindle on the Amazonpage ...but i will use Calibre :/
The actual Calibre says it can send Covers to the Scribe...but i think the older one?
The CoverFix Program what i have found here somewhere closes itself when i click on send to kindle so that wont help

I hope so that someone found an Solution?!
I have many Books and wont to that all manually with the SendToKindle

Hey, Darianna... I ended up converting my library to KFX in Calibre, but you have to change the output options to save the KFX files as documents (PDOC). If you do it this way you will get cover thumbnails. Supposedly, if you do it this way you lose some of the features you would have if they are saved as ebook instead of document, but I haven't noticed any real problems yet. Hope this helps.

Thanks.

I'm still waiting for someone with the 2024 Scribe to tell us if Download & Transfer option is available for it.

The download and transfer option is there under "more actions" but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Scribe, specifically. It just lets you download the .azw3 to your desktop. After that it just tells you to drag it to your documents folder.

The Download & Transfer via USB option needs a registered device to download for. So far the 2024 Paperwhites and Colorsoft do not appear to be allowed as targets for D&T. The older Scribes were and so far no one had posted whether the 2024 Scribe is an allowed target.

If you are able to download the ebook using D&T with the 2024 Scribe as the target device and then drag it to your Scribe and it opens, it appears that D&T is allowed for the 2024 Scribe. An ebook downloaded via D&T has it's DRM tied to the target device.

This just seems to be adding to the questions about just what the <expletive deleted> Amazon's staff have been ingesting.
