I needed to jump to the page in the book I was reading on the Bookeen.
Unbelievable such a basic feature isn't supported. |

The original Kobo firmware allowed jumping to a page number but that required use of Adobe page numbers which are not supported by their ePub3 renderer. Considering it's page numbers were originally based on 1 screen equals 1 page, only devices with identical amounts of text per screen would have matching page numbers.

Wasn't there a patch a long time ago that would allow you to enable Adobe page numbers in KEPUB? I assume the patch no longer exists because Kobo made some kind of firmware change that broke the patch.

The only patch that I am aware of that involved the Adobe page numbers changed it’s on/off control to toggle inverted mode.

Ah, I think I found what I was thinking of:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=327903 It was a Calibre option, not a patch, that was invalidated by changes to the Kobo firmware. |

I put my customized page count (based on characters per page) in the subtitle of the book; this way I can have a pretty good feel for the overall length. But I don't need page numbers to navigate in books and switch between them on different devices - there are other tools that, for me personally, fulfill this function just as well (the TOC, chapter hopping, text search).
I guess it depends on what you're used to. Years ago, I used to read the same book on a Kindle and a Kobo, and as Kindles don't use Adobe page numbers like epubs on Kobos, I had to find other ways for moving around in books. Now I have kepubs on my Sage and epubs on my Libra, which use a totally different page numbering scheme; so again, I don't depend on page numbers. I'm also guessing if you're the type who has good memory for numbers, page numbers might seem to you the perfect way for navigating in a book. I never remembered page numbers even when I read paper books and relied on other methods, so for me page numbers have never played an important part. |

When switching from an audiobook to the eBook, I have no page number to go by. I listen to something I can use to search for and that works.
What I do when I go from the eBook to the audiobook is I go by chapter boundaries. |

I know that nobody here cares about Nooks but they always seem to match page numbers. That is how I switch from reader to reader. BN never could get syncing between devices to work, even with Nook books. The page numbers seem to work just fine.

The B&N have always used the Adobe RMSDK for rendering EPUB/PDF content. Therefore the page numbers have remained consistent.

I get that they're using some plastic filter i.e. Kaleido 3 for Colour. Which carta version of the technology Kobo is using on their Colour devices to produce black and white?
1. https://youtu.be/XBPKP_r6914?t=513 here the youtuber mentioned on colour devices they're not using latest carta 1300 technology to produce black and white. 2. https://youtu.be/eYc0cJSRV_4 I purchased Kobo Clara Colour (due to colour hype in market...so many videos about Libra colour...) but I didn't notice the darker background difference as this is my 1st e-Ink device. After watching some videos I'm thinking to return it and purchase Clara BW one as I really don't intend to read manga/magazine/comics etc. 6" Kobo is my preferred size. 3. On Clara BW, 1 GHz single core processor is good enough or sometimes it's laggy especially for PDFs? 4. For Clara Colour battery is 42days with 30% brightness with 30mins readings which means around 20hours of batter life. How is the battery life of Clara BW? Official claim is lasts for weeks...better than colour is my expection... Last edited by shuvashish76; 01-25-2025 at 12:24 PM. |
